Eddie Floyd

Back to Soul

vocals
born: June 25, 1935 in Montgomery, Alabama

Member of:
- The Falcons 1955 - mid '60s

Eddie Floyd started his musical career as founder-member of the Detroit band The Falcons. With them he scored two hits: "You're So Fine" in 1959 and "I Found A Love" in 1962.

After some solo recordings for small labels in Detroit and Washington, D.C. he eventually moved to Memphis in 1965 to sign a record deal with the legendary Stax label. His fame did not start with his own records, but with his songwriting skills (mostly co-penned with Steve Cropper): Wilson Pickett scored a hit with Floyd's "634-5789". Other artists followed.

In 1966 Eddie Floyd scored a worldwide hit with "Knock On Wood". In the years after he scored more hits (in 1968 with Sam Cooke 's "Bring It On Home To Me"), but never reached the succes of "Knock On Wood".
