Julian Sas - A Million Miles Away (Live at the Hometown Festival
in Ballyshannon, Ireland, May 31 2008)
Blues is the romance of the construction worker. Julian Sas is only 29 years old, but already compared with American Colleagues like Johnny Winter, Walter Trout and Jimi Hendrix. The star is rising: their four CD's received praising reviews and the triumvirate is already the sensation at the festivals throughout the country.
Julian has been interested in music at a very young age: His parents loved the fifties-rock and played records of people like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. "I found this music really swinging and the natural beat has always been stuck in my memory". He remembers the day he came in contact with the Blues very well. "My father's pal invited me one day to listen to his record collection. I was going for a Sunday afternoon, but I went home after midnight. For me this was a magical day, because this was the day I heard guitarists like Roy Buchanan, Rory Gallagher, Alvin Lee, Jimi Hendrix, Freddy King for the first time. Suddenly I became a passionate lover of the Blues".
At the age of five he played on a toy guitar and at the age of thirteen he got a real one. "There was someone who wanted to teach me, but that had to be on classical basis. He didn't like the three Blues chords, but that meant everything to me. So the lessons were off and the Blues records became my teachers."
"After High School I studied for teacher, but when the music did go the right way I dropped the study. I became a freelance construction worker, so I would have more time for the music. I must say that among the construction workers I really learned the Blues. Blues is the romance of the construction worker and from that point of view I started to write my own songs."
