The Juke Joints - Live at Botermarktblues Haarlem, Netherlands,
June 15 2008
Holland's leading Dutch blues band The Juke Joints have celebrated their 20 years on the road with the release of a special 2 records CD, "20 Years", of which one is a live bonustrack CD., On that CD you find special tracks with Mark Wenner (The Nighthawks) and the Mississippi legend Willie J. Foster.
The CD Live in Ireland was recorded during their 4th trip in Ireland back in 2001, when they played in Dublin, Kilkenny, Myrtleville, Youghal & in Midleton and is one of the most rootsy albums in the bands long history. 3 tracks on accordeon, played by harmonicaman Sonny Boy, the Rory Gallagher mandolineclassic Going to my Hometown, 2 tracks on acoustic guitar for a superb Irish feel and a number of steaming blues and boogie Juke Joints originals.
In 1994, the band toured the USA, with a show at the famous Delta Blues Festival in Greenville Mississippi with B.B. King, Dr.John & Little Feat. The band also did a great show at the legendary BB Kings club in Memphis!
They went back to Memphis for the Bluesstock Festival in October 98, and recorded several tracks for their new CD Walking Down Memphis at the Sun Studios in Memphis! On this CD are also two bonustracks which the band recorded with Mississippi harmonicalegend Willie Foster when they toured together in 1999.
The superb live CD Willie Foster & The Juke Joints Live! was released in August 2000. On their 96 CD One Two Five Live!, drummer/leadsinger Peter Kempe co-wrote a track with Texas guitarslinger Omar (& the Howlers) Kent Dykes. This CD was dedicated to the memory of Irish bluesgiant Rory Gallagher. His brother (and life time manager) Donal wrote the liner notes. Also on that CD liner notes from Mark Wenner, harpplayer in the legendary US band The Nighthawks, and from Omar Kent Dykes (Omar & the Howlers).
The band performed on a high number of festivals with B.B. King, Alvin Lee, The Paladins, Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Rod Piazza, James Harman, etc.
In the UK the band performed at the Great British Bluesfestival in Colne with Omar &The Howlers, Jimmy Dawkins, Son Seals, Joe Louis Walker, Otis Grand Big Band and at the Burnley Blues Festival with Blues & Trouble, Big Bill Morganfield, Percy Strother, Big Town Playboys, Memo Gonzalez & the Bluescasters.
The Juke Joints headlined the Isle of Wight Bluesfestival and the Farnham Malting Bluesfestival.
Last year the band performed at the largest Bluesfestival in Holland, Moulin Blues and on the worldfamous North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, with Van Morrison and Bonnie Raitt.
